Thought of the Day: Making promises that you can't or won't keep is bad enough. But making promises, then delivering a diluted, weak answer to that promise is actually worse. People end up feeling cheated and duped; and when they go to punish you, are much more vigorous than if you just did nothing at all.
Such as it is with this big COVID relief bill that Democrats managed to pass today. Not a $2000 check as promised, but a wimpy $1400 one. No minimum raise to $15, which is still shy $6 an hour to even make a liveable wage in any state. Harsher cut-offs for recipients. And so on.
I've railed and railed about this for decades now: Democrats refuse to grow a backbone and fight for what's right, ie, actually keeping their promises. Then they wonder why people refuse to show up at the polls for them. It really isn't a difficult equation to solve.
Kye and I started watching Stranger Things again. It's something like the fifth watch-through. What a great, great series it is. I hope a new trailer is coming soon!
Have a nice weekend, folks. Don't go all crazy with that huge $1400 check and, you know, use it to pay off eight percent of your overdue rent.
