Notes: If you're going to write fantasy ... I mean ... write fantasy. There's a one-star review of Melody somewhere, where the reviewer, an angry Christian woman, if I recall, got on me because the story for her was so farfetched! I guess it was too much fantasy for her fantasy jones. Who knows? In any case, her review made me laugh. It still does.
What is sad to me--what many consider utterly fantastical--is the notion of a soul. Because science cannot prove it, science claims, as it does with consciousness, that it doesn't really exist. How utterly pathetic; and how utterly unimaginative.
Melody's wheelhouse is the human soul: what enlivens it, what motivates it, and what destroys it. In terms of strict fantasy, in my opinion, it is far less fantastical than most books in the genre.
