For Greta and Liz

One is young.
The other is younger.
They inhabit two bodies but speak with one voice.
One voice. Millions listening.
Millions opening their eyes.
Millions lifting their own voices.
The chorus swells over a burning world.

One is young.
A warrior. Deep in faith.
A tireless spirit.
Selfies and pinkie promises.
She speaks of justice and fairness,
compassion and equality.
She has a plan.
A righteous plan.
Millions are listening.
Millions are opening their eyes.
Millions are lifting their voices.
Justice and fairness!
Compassion and equality!
The chorus swells over a burning world.

One is younger.
She's both an apprentice and a master in courage:
the authentic kind:
the kind most of us shrink away from,
the kind we can no longer fear
if we want to save the world,
if we don't want our children to suffer horribly.
Courage we must have
if we want to save the green and the roar,
the purr and the fur,
the feathered and the scaled,
the deeply existing and the airlessly floating,
the barely visible and the lumbering hugely,
the canopied and the slithering,
the innocent and the pure.
She's roaming the world.
She has a plan.
A righteous plan.
Millions are listening.
Millions are opening their eyes.
Millions are lifting their voices.
Justice and fairness!
Compassion and equality!
The chorus swells over a burning world.

The chorus swells over a burning world.
