The key to defeating toxic masculinity is in its very definition. If men are invulnerable, then why are we so afraid and so terribly insecure? If men are independent and captains of our own destiny, then how are we subject to so many external forces? Isn't independence about forging your own way, trends and societal pressure be damned? If we're protectors, then why are we hurting those we're supposed to protect? If our masculinity means we're rugged individuals, then why are we all dressing exactly the same, buying exactly the same trucks, engaging in exactly the same behaviors?
