Extra notes: Two Star Trek panels at the San Diego Comic-Con that you shouldn't miss. The first was about Discovery, Short Treks, and Lower Decks; and the second was for Picard.  The trailer for Picard is here. I've already watched it three times, getting chills each time. If you're a trekkie like me, you will too.

Another excellent interview took place at the SDCC, this one for the excellent Cobra Kai. Kevin Smith is great as the interviewer, because he voices the exuberance and exhilaration all fans of this series feel.

One more bit of media, this one a superlative blog post from Seth Godin about the media. It's a must-read if you, like me, think that America's media is irredeemably corrupt and requires a massive shake-up and realignment of values if the US is going to survive even another decade. Trump attacks the media--all for the wrong reasons. But the media in this country needs attacking. In this I agree with the Orange Ass Boil. The mainstream media is all about profit and show and spectacle, not about reporting the news, and certainly not about reporting the truth and holding those in power accountable, left, center, or right.

I advocate for the avoidance of the mainstream media whenever possible. It's time to starve the beast before it consumes us all. Give ProPublica a try. There's an outfit who does news reporting right. Support them, donate to them, get involved. Because it truly is almost too late.
