Extra notes: If you watch anything today, watch this. It's Jon Stewart going off at a nearly empty Congressional chamber about the 9/11 First Responders' Fund, which Republicans keep delaying or defunding or refusing to fund (all three have happened over the last eighteen years).
Stewart's outrage should be our own. The problem is, for most of you, it isn't. Most of you couldn't give a shit. And ninety percent of the rest of you? You probably side with the Republicans.
The thing is, that's immoral. So is the indifference.
I realize in this day and age, most of you don't give a shit about morality, or liken it to some stiff and uptight preacher, or the Church Lady from Saturday Night Live. Or you don't believe morality exists, as so many materialists do, reducing it to nothing but cultural norms that evolved over the millennia, with no categorical or imperative backing. But you're wrong. And if you and your ilk are allowed to continue holding to your worldview, the consequences to this planet will be devastating. It's that simple.
I've said it before on this blog, and I'll say it again: we are at war.
The amoralists and immoralists (really, aren't they one and the same?) are winning--enormously. It isn't even close. They are winning because too few are willing to stand up and shriek, "HELL NO!" and fight back. They are winning because too many of you are indentured servants to Dewey, Screwum, & Howe Inc. and are comfortably numb in your indenturehood and are concerned only with sales at Target and Amazon, keeping up with the Joneses, weekends, your lawn, consuming your misery away, your prescription meds, and teaching your kids about your "values."
You think someone else is going to deal with the problems. Well, motherfucker, they aren't. And your inaction is vile.
Daily I work at making and updating the best blog I know how to. I want the right people to find this little digital space--the rebels, the seekers, the warriors, the involved. In short, the Pierwalkers. But I also want the wrong people to avoid it--which is all the rest of you.
Watch Stewart's outrage. And then ask yourself: What kind of fucked-up government of WE THE PEOPLE is this? How did we allow it? And what the fuck am >>I<< going to do about it?
Your answer--or the lack of an answer--says everything I need to know about you.
