Extra notes: I think we need to stop calling ourselves, as humans, an "intelligent species."

We aren't.

Oh, we can fly to the moon and cure diseases and build ridiculous half-mile-tall skyscrapers (using slave labor, of course); we can extend our life through a variety of medicines and lifestyle hacks; we can build great dams and even greater bombs; we can create "AI" and automate our back-breaking labor, but, in the end, in my opinion, that is small-i intelligence.

I'm talking about capital-I intelligence. Intelligence. We aren't that. At all.

And if I may be so bold, I'm willing to guess that any sentient life beyond our solar system who might be watching us would agree with me. I'll also guess that that's the reason we don't hear from them, or why we can't find them. They're hiding from us. We're intelligent only. Not Intelligent.

We refuse to change our ways: we refuse to stop polluting the world. We refuse to do what is necessary to save it. We spend many times more on killing, on weapons, than on feeding the hungry and impoverished among us. We refuse to stop judging each other based on ludicrous markers like skin color, country of origin, income level, and gender orientation or sexual preferences. We elect thugs and thieves and miscreants and the violent and insane to offices of power. We bow down to the great unthinking herds called corporations, and give them an equal voice to individuals. We make our medicine for-profit as opposed to a human right, given freely to all. We educate our kids differently, based on income and geography, on skin color and politics. We make education for-profit instead of making it what it is, a human right, like medicine should be, given freely to all. We let people starve who can't find work or are unable to work, instead of making sure everyone has enough income to survive, regardless of what they choose to do with their lives. We imprison people for life who were caught with a joint, but allow to go free a monstrous traitor intent on wiping out democracy. We allow our news media to propagandize, to mis- and disinform us. We castigate those who refuse to follow the group, who strike out on their own.

And so on, and so forth, ad fucking nauseam.

We are not Intelligent. No fucking way. And it's way past time to stop glorifying ourselves because we are merely intelligent.

Here's the thing. Small-i intelligence cannot be the way to achieve cap-I Intelligence. The so-called Singularity won't get us there. Our science won't do it. Medicine or government won't get us there. Corporations, guns, and wars sure as shit won't do it, either.

Intelligence, I am convinced, is not a consequence of high IQ, but a consequence of high SQ--Spiritual Quotient. It is a consequence of seeing beyond and then choosing to live beyond the meager rewards of small-i intelligence. And yes, I am equally convinced, those rewards are indeed meager compared to those that inevitably come to species who choose Intelligence. For with the former, we get only our own ends, brought stupidly down on our own selfish selves. With the latter, we are admitted into what must be a great and welcoming Galactic Community.

Materialism and all its noxious flavors won't save us. Consumption won't save us. Twitter and Facefuck and Amazon won't save us, either. Deal with it.

I choose, for myself, Intelligence. I hope you do, too.

Let the Revolution begin.
