Extra notes: You may have noticed some changes with the blog.
I deleted two pages--the one about contributing to the blog, and the one featuring my editing services. Regarding contributing to this blog, readers no longer have to jump through hoops in order to do so. You may now comment on any given post provided that you have a Google account (gmail or some other Google product or app). All comments will be strictly moderated.
I'm not in general a fan of comments or comment strings. The United States has basically commented itself to the edge of the precipice of fascist doom. Comments are generally shallow, poorly considered, narcissistic verbal time bombs that bear little if any relationship to decency, deep thought, kindness, or sincerity.
And so, if you feel you want to comment on something here, please go in with full awareness of my feelings towards them, and plan accordingly. Thank you.
The two new pages feature my published works all on a single page, and on the other, my subscription service, which I'm still tweaking, but which is now in full swing. For $10 I'll give you a coupon code that will give you full access to my entire library for a year. That's a really great deal. I have no plans to "bitch" the page up: those who sign up, I suspect, will be regular readers of this blog and will have gotten to know and trust me over a long time. I don't need to pretty anything up for them in order to gain that trust or wow them into doing so. I'm a lone writer simply looking for ways to connect with readers and to offer them more than one way to pay for my work. That's it.
Since paying for a domain name, my pageviews have gone way up. A "bad" day these days means fewer than 200 pageviews. That's ... crazy. The average before I bought the domain name was 45. People are, thankfully, discovering this blog. I've put two solid years of very hard work on it (its birthday is March 8) and am proud of the results thus far.
I absolutely love several movies that star or have in them John Cusack. Kye and I regularly watch Better Off Dead, Sixteen Candles, The Sure Thing, and Serendipity. (I'm not a fan, as such, of the Cameron Crowe classic Say Anything, which I think is excellent but reminds me too much of a very difficult time and a very horrible, manipulative girl I dated back then, one with whom I watched the film, and so unpleasantly associate with her to this day.)
So I say this with respect: John, please shut the fuck up. Senators Warren and Harris are both excellent presidential candidates; and your incessant Bernie worshiping is getting really rancid. He couldn't hold a candle to Hillary Clinton; and he doesn't come close to Warren or Harris either; or for that matter Gillibrand, Castro, or Booker. He's a divisive, crusty, flatulent windbag whose time has long since come and gone, but who thinks he's still relevant, which of course means he's going to go all out to destroy those other candidates and thus do his part to throw the election to Trump. You don't want that, do you?
You're becoming the left's version of Rob Lowe or Scott Baio. Please stop.
This world is on the very precipice of doom, folks. We live in a society that values insane things: consumption, war, The Newest Big Thing, blockbusterism, materialism, nihilism, solipsism, and, when it comes to our biosphere or people who look different from us or who are poorer, rank indifference. Billions don't care that Facebook manipulates them and their data, effectively turning them, human beings, into products, and who daily sways governments towards authoritarianism. They don't care that folks who work for Amazon have to wear adult diapers because they aren't allowed bathroom breaks. They don't care that the billionaire class has taken over the US government. They don't care that children are ripped from mothers' arms at the border. They only care about their suburban lives and their suburban values, some of which I've listed above.
I have said it for more than twenty years now: the human species will not survive to see the 21st century unless a spiritual revolution is sparked and grows very quickly, one that foundationally reshapes societies worldwide and wakes us the fuck up once and for all.
The clock is literally ticking. To be indifferent at this point is to be grotesquely immoral. To be slothful about it results in the same judgment. I can respect John Cusack's fervor: he basically wants the same thing that I and every other sane person wants. I agree with his fervor--not his hateful rhetoric against people who are on the same side that he is.
I wake up sometimes feeling bad about my personal circumstances. But then I remind myself of the foundational insanity of this society--especially this society, American society--and I realize that a lot of it was done unto me, and is still being done unto me, just as it is being done unto millions upon millions of others.
It's time for a motherfuckin' revolution!
