Extra notes: I think that what we're seeing in US politics right now is an existential battle between good and evil. That sounds simplistic, I know. But I don't think it is.

One party--the Republican Party--is willing to do anything, destroy anything, and kill anyone to get their way. And what is that way? It's no less than the total control of the government. They do not like democracy--they hate it. Their actions are so malevolent, so mendacious, so corrupt that it's impossible for me not to look at it and call it evil. To call them evil.

Far too many in this country are unwilling to do that. They have been raised with some white-lighty notion that doing so is wrong. "Judge not, lest ye be judged," so said Jesus. But if you'll notice, that isn't a commandment not to judge, but to be very careful when you do. And it's vitally important at this time that we do: that we look at these horrible men and women and their actions and call them what they are. They are evil.

I also think that people are lazy. They don't want to take the necessary actions that making such a judgment demands. When you truly recognize evil for what it is, you lose the choice to walk away from it or ignore it without becoming necessarily complicit with it and therefore giving your tacit consent that it continue. And so folks watch the daily horrors presented on the news with blinders on; they defend the illegitimately elected orange ass-boil squatting in the Oval Office (whataboutism; bothsidesism); they continue to fence-sit and pretend that's the mature thing to do. It isn't. It's laziness. More relevantly, it's moral cowardice.

This is an existential battle between good and evil, between humanity choosing to live and grow and learning to love this Earth and each other, or utter self-destruction wrought by blind greed, ignorance, nationalism, racism, consumption, indifference, misogyny, and hatred.

There isn't a third choice. And we have, at most, a decade to choose.
