Pierwalker Log: September 5, 2018

Writing start: 10:06 A.M.
Finish: 2:58 P.M.
Total new words (est.): 1200 + new poem
Edited (est.): 4900

Tasks

1. Failure: Align edit chapter four

2. Book Three Melody: 700 new words
Notes: Another chapter that is shaping up to be a favorite. It's been in my head for more than a dozen years, and I was afraid I wasn't going to do it justice. But I believe I am.

3. Love Story: Off

4. Ant story: Off

5. Fractalverse: New poem
Notes: It's the first new poem since something like July 23. Ridiculous.

6. Firefly: 500 new words
Notes: Trying to decide where to end this chapter.

7. Gilligan: Read-through

8. Slum: Off till Saturday

Extra notes: In this blockbuster, celebrity-obsessed culture, people like me aren't just ignored but treated with truly toxic disdain. It's pretty apparent if you just watch and listen.

I've taken on too much by way of feeling shitty about myself whenever my efforts to connect and "grow" my audience fail. Way too much. Most of this doesn't fall on me, in fact. It falls on the culture itself and those who prop it up.

That realization has been a godsend to me. I can't tell you how much better I feel these days. That's what the month off did for me--it gave me perspective.

My name is Shawn Michel de Montaigne. I'm a writer. Whether you see or recognize that or not is, ultimately, irrelevant.
