Extra notes: This blog has eclipsed a hundred pageviews several times this month, today included.

It's difficult not to take such statistics seriously. I know I shouldn't; and I struggle with such knowledge. Google, for example, doesn't even directly define what a pageview is. Neither does Reddit. They don't want their members knowing because it could hurt their bottom line.

I meditate on the uselessness of such statistics constantly. I don't want to become yet another digital fatality seeking fame and fortune. Reading isn't even on the top ten list of activities for most Americans, if it even appears in the top twenty-five. It's quite rare these days to encounter anyone reading a book, either physical or digital. When it happens I'm genuinely surprised.

This is a lonesome career made exponentially more so due to the times and the attitudes of the people living in them. Few truly rebel and fewer still stick with that rebellion. Reading books in this age--again, physical or digital ones--is an act of rebellion.
