Extra notes: Want to know about an unusual salad I made yesterday? I chopped up some organic kale, parsley, and baby bok choy, added a handful of radishes, then topped it with sardines, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Wow, was it tasty!

I'm going to do it again today. Can't wait.

That, for me, is the essence of creativity. I didn't really plan that salad; I just had the ingredients and decided to go for it. So too for my writing. Beyond the basic infrastructure--the "ingredients"--I don't have anything else. Some things "want" to combine; others don't. Some things "want" to wait; others "want" to be included or expressed immediately. It's that "want" that's mysterious and lovely, because I'm certain it doesn't come from me.

I posted a Memorial Day warning prior to this. I genuinely fear for this country. We are so close to outright fascism today that I fear next year's Memorial Day will be one in which the United States, having fallen headlong into totalitarianism, will find me not writing, but hiding in a bunker somewhere. I'd love to say I'm exaggerating, but I'm not.

I write a lot about how indifference is a soul-killer. It also kills the souls of entire nations. It's killing this one right now. If people in November don't get off their asses and vote these monsters--all of them--out of office, we as a nation of laws and democratic institutions will cease to exist. That's terrifying.

For now, I will not be indifferent. I will continue to hound my representatives; I will continue to blog; I will continue writing stories that feature heroes who defeat the monsters; and I will focus on the good in my life--like that salad.

Now I just need a title for it.
